Remember this if you write a Saw movie

The reason why Jigsaw and Spiral aren’t as popular is because it treats the Jigsaw Killer like he isn’t a fucked up maniac and in fact makes it seem like he might have a point. The films sort of treat the killers like heroes and don’t really have that grey that made it interesting. Sure, there were some people in traps that deserved it in the original films, but it still brought you back to earth and reminded you that jigsaw was a killer.

Even with Saw X, they make John Kramer sympathetic then remind you that he totally caused those people’s deaths. He was a protagonist but he still wasn’t a good guy. I don’t wanna say that you can’t write an interesting Saw story without the original characters, so lets say that the key ingredient is acknowledging that whatever character is making jigsaw traps is FUCKED UP.
