It really does feel like this. I could barely name any websites outside the usual social media sites and so many sites from the past are ether gone or have fallen off the handle. Its not helped by google stifling any sites that aren’t profitable. Also the death of flash took out some sites or nerfed them. I know thats what happened with Gaia Online. That site is still running but its pretty much a shell. I rediscovered an old Mortal Kombat forum I used to lurk on when I was a kid and it so freakin dead. Especially compared to how it was back then. Lots of fanfic threads, RPs, and people tearing apart the MK lore, etc. Its surreal seeing that gone. The threads are just news updates with no responses or this:

Tho most people leave these sites for a reason, I suppose. Social media has a bigger reach and is far more convenient. And as much as people complain, no ones really willing to give up the convenience even if it means giving up an actual community in favor of mindless scrolling and never talking to people. There are different websites out there (yea hi) but you’re gonna have to find them yourself. Its not going to just appear from passive scrolling. I don’t have much hope rn for people actually doing that. Most people can’t even stick to their guns when they say they’re leaving twitter for tumblr.
