***Spoilers ahead of course***

It was fine for a first book meant to establish everything. At least I wasn’t lost or anything despite how weird the concept was. There was a black girl that was a complete bg character with no speaking lines and I was still hoping she wouldn’t get unceremoniously killed. I was just crossing my fingers hoping she wasn’t seen as disposable. Thankfully she wasn’t.

So without spoiling too much, portals open up to monster dungeons and people with various powers and abilities show up to kill em. The first arc was basically the characters trying to figure out how to worship a deity. I think it was meant to be a horror twist on religion but really its not that far off from real life religions. Anyway, its interesting how Jinwoo (the protag) starts off with no powers. You’d think there’d be more regulations around that, esp since he can’t kill anything and just gets himself nearly killed every time. He starts off with no powers before getting a strange ability that’s odd by the standards of that world even. And if theres one trope I like… Its supernatural things occurring that are extraordinary even by the standards of the supernatural world set up. Like yea, bewilder everyone including the reality altering wizards!

I got the next book shortly after and I’ll say the plot is def picking up now that the story has been set up. So imagine you get special powers that turn you into a rpg main character that gets daily quest and suddenly you get an emergency quest to kill everyone in the room and you gotta do it or your heart will stop and also you’re still in the real world so laws still apply. I mean he sort of got away with it because they were in a dungeon and it looked like the other guys just got killed in a dungeon. But one of the guys has a brother (its implied that he’s also a rpg main character) that wants revenge, but his schedule was tired up for 2 months so… its gotta wait? That was the funniest part of the book like imagine not being able to pencil in revenge into your schedule for two fucking months.

On one hand they’re trying to paint the… game ui like it has an agenda because it suddenly told Jinwoo to kill those guys, on the other hand they were trying to kill him and his boyfriend so it might’ve come to that anyway. Its also implying that Jimwoo is getting more blood thirsty because he’s gone from having none of the power to all of the power. Still no one really know about his new ability to level up so everyones constantly underestimating him.

Anyway this was also the book where we’re introduced to the obligatory yaoi bait side character. The girl from the first book is not even present at this point as she is currently suffering from lame female char syndrome. She might return who knows. But right now the two male leads are written better with more chemistry.
