I think people blame the lack of romance and sex in movies on the yooths too much. First off its wild seeing the next gen getting blamed for like everything. Looks like the cycle continues. Second, this isn’t related but I wanna point out the older people are freaking out about the birthrate and teens not having sex after spending the last 2-3 decades combating teen pregnancy.

Now, I think a reason we see fewer sex and romance scenes in mainstream movies could have something to do with social justice. And I’m not blaming social justice, I’m blaming closed mindedness. Ok so to explain what I’m thinking, imagine the cast from the Minecraft movie. Yadda Yadda it was like diverse n shit. Now imagine the one black woman from that movie. NOW imagine a mainstream big budget movie that features a character that looks like her as the main love interest and its not a joke plot. Bet you can’t. But this isn’t a dig at her appearance, I want to bring attention to the fact that romance in mainstream movies tend to involve young thin white people. Unless its a Black Movie and the female lead character still won’t look like the woman from the Minecraft movie.

I personally think that as writers for big budget mainstream movies got more socially aware and made attempts to diversify their casts, ether they, or the focus tests, or the execs or whatever only wanted to write romance between the young skinny and white people. But it would be incredibly awkward to have these diverse group casts and yet only ever ship the two het white people. And its not like people wouldn’t catch on to a trend movie after movie so they just don’t write it as much ig. Theres also the idea that there should be more lgbt ships, but they’re afraid to write lgbt in any serious way so lets just omit all romance plots so that we don’t have to acknowledge it. I’m mostly talking about mainstream stuff in general and theres always outliers.

Thats just my theory and what sparked it was watching a video that points out how few black women get to be the main love interests in media. TV is more free-er than mainstream movies and I feel like they’re bolder both with the romance/sex and the diversity. Unknown indie movies can also get crazy. Actually I think the reason I got into the yandere VN community is because its basically a cannon x oc community anyway and I think I could let my imagination run a bit and challenge perceptions in my mind and others. I was far from the only one doing it even if other people didn’t think of it that way.
