About this censorship thing…

Alright, so I’ve heard about all the drastic measure that multiple governments have suddenly decided to take around the world “for safety” or something. So first off, I don’t think this is being done out of a genuine concern of safety. This is ether to make data collection more efficient or to control the flow of information. Possibly both.

This topic has been talked about to death by this point. Some people are all for this, most are solidly against. Doesn’t matter, they’re really pushing it though regardless of how unpopular and the harm it could cause (just like everything else the governments been doing all year). So my personal thoughts about it are a bit nuanced. The prohibition is the go-to for a lot of people who oppose the new laws and it is a good comparison, but not for the reason they expect. So the prohibition happened because too many guys were getting really drunk and beating their families. They wanted to get rid of alcohol entirely to solve this. It started with a real issue but the solution was bullshit and didn’t work and made shit worse. Its the same thing with these internet ID laws. There is an issue with people being exploited on the internet, but the “solution” is bullshit and only going to make shit worse.

I think the internet having genuine issues is being used by bad actors to enact laws that will only enrich themselves under the guise of “safety”. So people who oppose it always want things to stay as they are and I’m telling you that doing that will only make this happen over and over and over again (and laws like this have been pushed for years before this). Because like I said: there are actual issues with the current internet and many victims of it. Are you just going to tell them to suck it up? That why we’re in this mess. This won’t be settled once and for all until we come up with an actual solution that will help people. I’m not history buff, but I bet that expanding workers rights so that men weren’t forced to work 20 hours in the perpetual sweat factor with only enough time off to sleep on a rope (and some feminism.) did a lot more for domestic violence banning alcohol. We should fight the censorship laws but still be working on solutions to current issues besides telling victims to be quiet.

So far I don’t know how far those laws will extend. It might be just for big social media sites. It started by going after things that are relatively low stakes like porn and horror media. We’re seeing music sites and even youtube (sites that aren’t immediately nsfw and don’t even allow it in the first place) starting to ask for ID now. It was my first tip off that this isn’t really about safety but they’re using it for an excuse. Whats the goal? Could be many things. I think the root of it is control of information ether by keeping certain information from spreading freely on the internet or making it so unbearable that people leave the internet and then the only source of world information is the already corporate-whipped TV news.

Now with that being said, heres a quick doodle of two of my favorite characters, Meep Street (A Rocket to the Stars) and Xavier (Love and Deepspace), hanging out. He’s giving her a back massage.
