I agree with the original sentiment of “art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturb” but of course it got hijacked by the comfortable to finger wag at the disturbed. People will sling out the phrase without thinking about who their talking to and it results in telling people from disenfranchised groups that art made to vocalize hatred/ malice/ indifference towards them is supposed to make *them* uncomfortable. We all know that women, poc, lgbt people, SA victims, etc are the ones that need to be knocked down a few pegs. That’ll improve society.
