I kinda get what they were getting at but I think they should have toned the monster down a bit to focus on the dysfunctional family so that they could really sell the allegory. It hints at the parents being not so great but doesn’t follow through. I was expecting the worst scene to be them announcing their divorce but it was kinda mild? Also there’s implied cheating that goes nowhere as well. Like is this family a total mess or not.

I feel like if you want a better “terrible relationship-as-horror” movie you should watch Together.

I do wonder if the late 20s horror will be centered around escaping your sucky daily like for some isekai-backrooms/ai fantasy. I feel like that what everyone’s been sliding into unironically since the 2020s.
