I’m going to say something controversial here but the reason free the nipple flopped is because we still have total rape culture. You cant have both free the nipple and rape culture at the same time but people will lose their shit if you question rape culture.

I’m mostly bringing this up because I saw a tumblr (of course it’s fucking tumblr) post where someone brought up free the nipple then proceeded to shame women for not participating because they didn’t want to turn men on. Like we don’t live in a society where men’s arousal is treat like a valid excuse for violence. No,no its just women being prudes. The only reason women arent walking around topless is because of the laws and how puritan they are. There’s no great social shift that needs to happen that will let women do this safely. I’m just saying that this is not a stand alone issue like so many want to treat it as. There’s other intersections that need to be addressed as well but so many people would rather die than tell men that they cant just do what they want because they have a boner.

And to be clear a woman SHOULD be able to go outside naked without anything happening to her. We just aren’t interested in creating a world where nothing would happen to a naked woman.
